On November 11, 2017, Professor Kim Yonghee of the Korean Academy of science and Technology (KAIST) was invited to visit the school of nuclear science and technology of Xi'an Jiaotong University and had in-depth technical exchanges with Nuclear Engineering Computational Physics (NECP) Lab. All teachers and graduate students of the lab including Professor Wu Hongchun, Professor Shen Wei, and Professor Cao Liangzhi, attended the meeting.

Professor Kim Yonghee is an internationally renowned expert in nuclear reactor physics, fourth generation nuclear reactor design and nuclear transmutation. He is the head of the CASMRR project in South Korea. The project takes KAIST as the leading unit and is jointly cooperated by the team of 11 professors from four universities. The goal of the project is to develop the key technologies of automatic small modular reactor (SMR). The development cycle is about 6 years and 7 months, and the cost is about $2 million per year.

In the morning, Professor Kim Yonghee delivered two academic reports entitled "Researches for Autonomous PWR-type Small Modular Reactor" and "APEC Method for the XS Correction". The first report starts from SMR, including the technical status and reactor type advantages, and leads to the research results of CASMRR project, including the core design, safety analysis, automatic control, and other research of atom (fully known as autonomous transportable on demand reactor module). In the second report, Professor Kim introduced his team's research on two-step method and homogenization cross section, mainly his newly proposed APEC section correction method used in the homogenization process, including theoretical model, numerical results, and next research plan. The two sides held detailed technical discussions on ASMR and APEC in turn.
